Dylan Garand stopped 19 shots, while Tye Kartye and Will Cuylle scored twice apiece to give New York something positive to build on after a difficult weekend. (NHL.com)
Sunday’s three regular-season games also brought a Seattle win despite Alex Ovechkin’s 930th career goal and a fifth straight victory for Carolina. (NHL scores)

Rangers 6, Canucks 2
The score looks comfortable; getting there took some work. (NHL.com) Vancouver was level at 2-2 with 3:04 left in the middle frame. (NHL.com)
Kartye made sure that tie did not survive the intermission, taking a J.T. Miller pass and beating Kevin Lankinen at 18:25 after Vladislav Gavrikov started the breakout. (NHL.com) Just 1:04 into the third, Alexis Lafrenière converted Gabe Perreault’s power-play feed, the two-goal cushion that changed the feel of the game. (NHL.com)
Perreault then redirected Adam Fox’s shot at 5:57, and Cuylle added his second at 15:22. (NHL.com) Lafrenière and Perreault each finished with a goal and an assist, while Miller and Mika Zibanejad each had two assists. (NHL.com) Zibanejad reached 250 power-play points as a Ranger, joining Brian Leetch and Rod Gilbert in that club. (NHL.com)
Garand and Lankinen both made 19 saves, but New York won the third period 3-0 and improved to 5-2-0, including 4-0-0 at home. (NHL.com) Vancouver fell to 2-5-0 with its fourth straight loss; Guillaume Brisebois made his season debut in place of healthy scratch Jamie Oleksiak. (NHL.com) In this NHL recap’s lead game, the Rangers supplied the offence to go with their new starter’s work. (NHL.com)

(NHL.com) Boone Jenner’s unassisted goal 46 seconds into the third pulled Washington even again. (NHL.com)
Jared McCann finally broke the deadlock at 14:33, slipping past Timothy Liljegren and beating Logan Thompson with a low wrist shot. Hurricanes 4, Flyers 1
Carolina did its damage in a burst. (NHL.com) After a scoreless first period, Andrei Svechnikov, Shayne Gostisbehere and Sebastian Aho scored in a 6:38 stretch of the second, with the Aho-Svechnikov-William Carrier line involved in all three goals. (NHL.com) Philadelphia’s Christian Dvorak briefly cut the deficit to 2-1 before Aho restored the two-goal margin just 1:28 later. (NHL.com)
Carrier had two assists, and Aho and Svechnikov each finished with a goal and an assist. (NHL.com) Mark Jankowski found the net at 15:09 of the third for his fourth straight game with a goal, with Jordan Martinook earning his 200th point as a Hurricane on the assist. (NHL.com) Pyotr Kochetkov made 18 saves; Joseph Woll stopped 26 at the other end. (NHL.com)
The win was Carolina’s fifth straight and fourth straight on the road, lifting its record to 5-1-1. (NHL.com) Philadelphia is 0-5-2, its seven consecutive losses to open a season now a franchise record. (NHL.com) The Hurricanes’ quick response to Dvorak’s goal was the turning point of this NHL recap’s final game, and Philadelphia did not score again. (NHL.com)
Both teams were missing important forwards: Carolina captain Jordan Staal sat out with a lower-body injury, and Philadelphia placed Travis Konecny on injured reserve with a lower-body injury Sunday. (NHL.com) Flyers rookie Oliver Bonk was recalled from Lehigh Valley and played 16:28 in his season debut, recording two shots and a minus-3 rating. (NHL.com)
