This NHL recap starts in Montreal, where Jacob Fowler’s 30-save shutout and Zachary Bolduc’s sixth-round shootout goal gave the Canadiens a 1-0 win over Detroit and ended a three-game losing streak. (NHL.com)

Saturday’s 14 regular-season games also brought five points from William Nylander, hat tricks for Kirill Kaprizov and Brandon Hagel, and a late Ottawa comeback. (NHL scores)

Every game in this NHL recap has a date-verified official highlight; find Friday’s NHL recap and more coverage on Hockey Informers.

Canadiens 1, Red Wings 0 (SO)

Montreal had to celebrate this one more than once: three apparent goals disappeared before Bolduc finally settled it through Daniil Tarasov’s pads in the sixth shootout round. Fowler then denied Nate Danielson, keeping Detroit scoreless on all six attempts and securing his second NHL shutout. (NHL.com)

Cole Caufield’s shot at 1:16 of the first period was ruled not to have fully crossed the line; Bolduc’s second-period finish was disallowed for Jake Evans’ goaltender interference. Alexandre Texier appeared to win it in overtime, only for an offside review involving Bolduc to erase that goal too. (ESPN)

Fowler’s breakaway stop on Andrew Copp at 3:35 of the third preserved the tie, and Tarasov matched his 30 saves in his first Detroit start. At 21, Fowler became the fifth Canadiens goalie to post multiple shutouts at age 21 or younger. (NHL.com)

Caufield, Juraj Slafkovský and Nick Suzuki combined for 14 shots, while Lane Hutson logged 26:30; the opportunities were there without a regulation finish. Kaiden Guhle returned for his season debut, recording four hits in 15:35, and young defenceman Adam Engström played 6:54 with two blocked shots. (NHL box score)

Guhle had missed camp and the opening games following summer surgery. (Canadiens recap)

The power play remained a concern at 0-for-4, leaving Montreal 1-for-17 this season. Fowler was making his second consecutive start after Wednesday’s recall from Laval, with Samuel Montembeault expected to miss 10 to 14 days because of a lower-body injury. (Sportsnet)

The win brought Montreal to 2-2-1 and five points, while Detroit moved to 1-3-1. (NHL.com)

Buffalo visits Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. ET. (Canadiens schedule)
