Toews undecided on future playing career — The Fourth Period
Jonathan Toews played in all 82 games this season for the third time in his career. Perhaps a sign of things to come, but the veteran centre told reporters on Friday he has not yet made a decision on his playing career.
Toews, who turns 38 on April 29, played in his 16th NHL season and first with the Winnipeg Jets this campaign, recording 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points. He returned to the ice after spending two years focusing on his health.
Speaking with the media on Friday, Toews admitted he will take the next few weeks to reflect on his season and ultimate determine whether or not he wants to play for a 17th season.
One thing seems clear, though. If Toews does return to the NHL for the 2026-27 campaign, it will be with the Jets.
Toews signed a one-year contract with the Jets on July 1, 2025 and earned a base salary of $2 million. He made an additional $2.75 million for games played bonuses.
