Flames looking to move up in draft — The Fourth Period
The Calgary Flames hold the sixth-overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft and GM Craig Conroy is expected to try and move up and select higher.
The Flames appear to be open for business as they go through a rebuild. Veterans like Blake Coleman and Olli Maatta are expected to be shopped, while Conroy is believed to be willing to entertain calls on almost anyone.
In addition to dealing with current roster players, Conroy will try to make a move or two at the Draft next month and according to TFP’s David Pagnotta, he might look at the second-overall pick currently owned by the San Jose Sharks.
During Thursday’s episode of DFO Rundown: Insider Edition with Irfaan Gaffar and Pagnotta, it was discussed that the Sharks are open go taking calls on the No.2 pick and that the Flames may be one of the teams eyeing it.
“Calgary is going to poke around for that No.2 pick. I think Craig Conroy is going to look to see how he can move up in this draft,” Pagnotta said. “With the Calgary Flames, it’s definitely going to be something to look at. They are, in a perfect world for them, it’s No.2.
“There are a lot of teams that really like Ivar Stenberg. The assumption is Gavin (McKenna) is going (first-overall). Stenberg is going to be No.2. And this might be something that happens in real time, but Calgary definitely does, and they’re going to see if they can move up now.”
In an article published earlier this week, DFO’s Anthony Di Marco also reported that the Flames are open for business and noted the likes of Morgan Frost, Joel Farabee, Yegor Sharangovich and Connor Zary could also be up for grabs.
