Canucks talk to Gallagher’s agent — The Fourth Period
The Vancouver Canucks have reciprocated interest in veteran right wing Brendan Gallagher, whom the Montreal Canadiens are looking to trade this off-season, but a deal is far from completion.
Last week, during Montreal’s exit interviews with the media, Gallagher admitted his time with the Habs was coming to an end and the team would try to find him a new home.
“It’s pretty clear I’ll be moving on here,” he said, adding Vancouver as a destination he would have interest in.
On Monday, Gallagher’s agent Gerry Johansson revealed in an interview with Donnie and Dhali on CHEK News that he has already spoken with the Canucks and while they have interest in acquiring him, they have other business to attend to, as well.
“I think initially they expressed interest, but they have moving parts, too,” Johansson said. “It’s on their desk, and I do think they do have interest. It’s just a matter if it can work or not. Until it’s done, it’s never done.”
Gallagher, 34, is entering the final year of his contract and comes with a $6.5 million salary cap hit, though he is due $4 million in actual salary.
He has skated in 911 career NHL regular-season games with the Canadiens since being drafted by them in the fifth-round, 147th overall, of the 2010 NHL Draft. He has tallied 246 goals and 241 assists for 487 points, along with 594 penalty minutes, in that span.
