The first competitive action of the 2026-27 NHL season will take place in Gatineau as the Montreal Canadiens’ prospects join those of the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets for the Prospect Challenge.
Starting off the four-game weekend is a match between Montreal and Winnipeg this afternoon. The feature player in the contest will be Jets 2026 first-rounder Viggo Björck, but Canadiens fans will be watching two players trying to shut him down: defencemen Owen Protz and Luke Mittelstadt. Not many of the top players we just finished profiling in the Top 25 Under 25 will be there, but there are still a few players with NHL aspirations looking to start off a new season on the right foot.
