Windsor Spitfires Announce 2026-27 Training Camp Schedule – The Hockey Writers – OHL
It’s beginning to look a lot like hockey as the Windsor Spitfires announced their 2026-27 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Training Camp schedule on Tuesday afternoon.
After being eliminated in the Western Conference Championship in May, to the eventual 2026 Memorial Cup champion Kitchener Rangers, the Spitfires have been focused on this season. While several veterans, including captain Liam Greentree (New York Rangers), Nathan Villeneuve (Seattle Kraken), and Carson Woodall (Boston College) have graduated, there’s a shot of youth heading into camp. It all gets underway when camp opens on Thurs., Aug. 27. Take a look.
Spitfires’ Training Camp Schedule
The club released its training camp schedule on Tuesday, and it’s a bit different than past seasons. First, there are four “teams” involved – Red, Blue, White, and the new Gold. They open camp on Thurs., Aug. 27 with a pair of evening scrimmages inside the main bowl of the WFCU Centre. It wraps up on Sat., Aug. 29 with the annual Blue-White Game at the WFCU Centre.

While several veterans have moved on, the club has a solid injection of young talent who are eager to show they can pick up where last season left off. Expected in camp are Detroit Red Wings’ prospect forward Michal Svrcek (2025 Canadian Hockey League first round Import Draft), 2026 Hlinka Gretzky silver-medalist (Team USA) forward Ty Bergeron, and Edmonton Oilers’ 2026 picks defenceman Andrew Robinson and forward Caden Harvey.

Preseason Games Follow Camp
The club will have very little time to breathe after camp wraps up. They begin their 2026-27 preseason schedule the next day as they take on the Soo Greyhounds on Sun., Aug. 30 at 4:05 p.m. at the WFCU Centre. That’s their lone game in the main bowl until the home opener.
From there, they play a pair of road games. First, they travel up north to face the Greyhounds on Sat., Sept. 5 for a 4:00 p.m. puck drop. Then, they have a few days off before heading to Leamington’s Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre (about 45 minutes southeast of Windsor) for a road game against the Flint Firebirds on Fri., Sept. 11. The Leamington Flyers are the Firebirds’ Junior A affiliate.
Finally, the next night, on Sat., Sept. 12, they head to the Vollmer Complex in LaSalle to take on the Firebirds again at 7:00 p.m. The Spitfires are the home team for that as the LaSalle Vipers are their Junior B affiliate.
That wraps up the preseason. The next steps on the agenda are organizing the roster as head coach Greg Walters, general manager Bill Bowler, and the rest of their staff get ready for the regular season opener. They start on Fri., Sept. 18 on the road against Dale Hunter’s London Knights. The home opener is 24-hours later when the Knights come down the 401 to face the Spitfires in the home-and-home finale.
Tickets to the preseason games will be available on Sat., Aug. 15 at 9:00 a.m. on the WFCU Centre website or in person at the box office. Tickets to regular-season games go on sale a week later on Sat., Aug. 22 at 9:00 a.m., again, at the box office or online.
