Wild GM Guerin trying to add top forward — The Fourth Period
The Minnesota Wild continue to explore the trade market for a second line centre and GM Bill Guerin is itching to fill that void on his roster.
Guerin has been actively looking to add up front and isn’t afraid to package together quality assets and draft picks in order to land help up the middle.
The Wild, with just over $9.4 million in salary cap space, have been dangling young centre Danila Yurov as a primary piece in a package for a centre and are also willing to move at least one of their future first round draft picks to get a deal done.
Guerin tried to acquire Vincent Trocheck from the New York Rangers during the season in a deal that included a first-round pick and he may circle back now, if he hasn’t already, to re-engage in those talks with Rangers GM Chris Drury.
The Wild are among the teams on Dylan Larkin’s trade list and talks with the Detroit Red Wings are believed to be ongoing.
According to The Athletic’s Michael Russo, the Wild had a “huge offer” on the table for Brady Tkachuk before the Ottawa Senators traded him to the Florida Panthers on Sunday. The team will pivot, but it’s unclear if that same offer would apply to a player like Larkin, Trocheck or someone else.
