TVA Sports renews NHL rights for 12 years, will broadcast more Canadiens games
With only weeks to go before the beginning of the season Quebecor, Rogers and the National Hockey League announced Thursday that TVA Sports will renew its national broadcast rights deal for another 12 years.
“The amount of the transaction will not be disclosed for reasons of business confidentiality,” Quebecor said in a statement.
Under the new agreement, TVA Sports will have national French-language rights to 32 of the Canadiens’ 84 regular-season games — 10 more than under the previous deal. That includes Saturday night games and the season opener. The deal also gives TVA Sports rights to any playoff series involving the Canadiens, 22 regular-season Ottawa Senators games and up to 350 NHL games a season overall.
