Signing confirmed for a Canadiens forward acquired by Kent Hughes

We have an update regarding a forward who was acquired by Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

Saku Koivu’s son has signed a contract extension with Turku, securing his short-term future there.

It is a one-year agreement for the 2026-27 season.

The young forward will therefore remain in his home country and continue his development before potentially joining the Montreal Canadiens organization full-time.

The decision makes sense given his current situation.

He continues to train with his team as well as on his own.

This kind of mindset is always appreciated by an organization, but he will now have to back up his words with his play after a disappointing 2025-26 Liiga season.

Another season to continue developing, away from the pressure of North American hockey.

The Canadiens can continue to monitor his progress from afar. Staying in Turku allows Koivu to play a bigger role than he likely would elsewhere.

I’m really looking forward to seeing whether Koivu can put together an excellent season and potentially work his way back into the Canadiens organization’s “A-tier” prospect conversation.
