Sick Links

The Montreal Canadiens traded forward Sean Farrell to the Anaheim Ducks for forward Sasha Pastuljov on Monday afternoon. Pastuljov is coming off an AHL career-high 21 goals and 57 points in 71 games after leading the San Diego Gulls in points this past season.

Monday featured the sixth installment of my Montreal Canadiens Role Profiles series, where I discussed the role and expectations for defenseman Kaiden Guhle ahead of the 2026-27 NHL season.

Patrick Kane was on the Pardon My Take Barstool podcast, where he discussed returning to the Chicago Blackhawks. He also talked about trying to convince his long-time Chicago Blackhawks teammate Jonathan Toews to come out of retirement so that they can play one last season together. Toews confirmed that he is now considering coming out of retirement to join Kane with the Blackhawks for a final year.

The New York Islanders have reportedly shown some interest in former Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine. However, the Islanders were only willing to offer the Finnish forward a professional tryout contract, according to NHL reporter Stefan Rosner. Laine played just five games with the Canadiens this past season, where he recorded a single assist before being shut down for the year due to a sports hernia surgery.

The rumours around Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko continued to swirl on Monday as insiders reported that multiple teams are still kicking tires on the Russian winger. These new rumours aren’t coming from the top insiders so tread lightly but Marchenko’s name continues to dominate the talk around the NHL after a weekend with numerous reports.

According to Ansar Khan of MLive, the Detroit Red Wings nearly signed forward Anthony Mantha to a one-year $5 million contract before he chose a two-year deal with the New Jersey Devils instead. The Red Wings then relieved Steve Yzerman of his duties as general manager two days after Mantha chose the Devils.

It is currently a quiet time around the NHL as there aren’t many signings or trades, but things should start to pick up again soon. One name to continue to pay attention to is Red Wings star forward Dylan Larkin, who is still expected to be moved before training camp in September.
