Pronovost, 4-time Stanley Cup winner with Canadiens, dies at 90
Andre Pronovost, who won the Stanley Cup four times in each of his first four NHL seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, died Tuesday. He was 90.
Pronovost, a forward, had 198 points (94 goals, 104 assists) in 557 NHL games from 1956-57 to 1967-68 with the Canadiens, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota North Stars and 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 70 playoff games, including nine points (six goals, three assists) in 37 postseason games in his first four seasons (1956-60) during Montreal’s five-year Cup run from 1955-56 to 1959-60.
The grandfather of New Jersey Devils forward Anthony Mantha, Pronovost had an NHL career-high 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) in 69 games with the Canadiens in 1959-60. His best performance during the playoffs was in 1963-64, when he had seven points (four goals, three assists) in 14 games with the Red Wings.
