What if the Montreal Canadiens filled their top-six hole with a winger instead of a center?
The idea comes from Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, who shared his proposed scenario.
A big 24-year-old winger who scored 20 goals last season. Of course, this addition would come at a cost.
Marc-Olivier Beaudoin detailed his scenario:
Caufield-Suzuki-Cuylle*
Slafkovsky-Kapanen-Demidov
Newhook-Danault-Bolduc
Texier-Evans-Anderson

I’m really not a fan of Kapanen as the 2nd center but if no center is available, we’ll have to make do.
Kapanen had his best moments surrounded by Slafkovsky and Demidov, he can handle more of the defensive aspect of the line while the other 2 produce offensively.
Kirby Dach would be the trade chip for Will Cuylle
Beaudoin himself admitted the idea makes him uncomfortable.
Kapanen is not a natural second-line center, even though he scored 22 goals last season.
Still, the reasoning is understandable.
Kapanen had his best moments alongside Slafkovsky and Demidov, where he handled the defensive responsibilities.
The idea would be to let the other two drive the offense. While his wingers attack, the young center would take care of the defensive work.
Cuylle is not a perfect solution either, but he would certainly be a solid addition for the Canadiens.
