The starting point is a little-known rule.

In theory, NHL team coaches are not allowed to work with NHL players during the summer.

And the Canadiens still have not officially announced a contract extension for their goaltending coach.

Is Marciano officially unemployed at the moment?

Has he been released from his contractual obligations with the team?

That would explain a lot.

Without an official connection to the club this summer, Marciano could work with the Canadiens’ goaltenders without violating that well-known rule.

Will Kent Hughes wait until training camp to officially sign Marco Marciano?

The Canadiens could simply wait until training camp to officially finalize a new contract with Marciano, allowing him to work freely with the team’s goaltenders throughout the summer.

Let’s be honest, it would be extremely surprising if the Canadiens did not sign Marciano before the start of next season, considering the outstanding job he did in Montreal late last season after taking over for Éric Raymond.
