Oilers sign Murphy to 5-year contract — The Fourth Period
The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Connor Murphy to a five-year, $20.5 million contract.
Murphy, 33, was set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
His contract includes a full no-trade clause in the first three years of his deal, and a 16-team trade list in the final two years.
In 80 games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Oilers this past season, Murphy registered five goals and 12 assists for 17 points.
Drafted 20th overall by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2011 NHL Draft, Murphy has played in 852 career NHL regular-season games with the Coyotes, Blackhawks and Oilers and has accumulated 48 goals and 129 assists for 177 points, and 560 penalty minutes.
