Nurse trade talks continue for Oilers — The Fourth Period
The Edmonton Oilers remain in trade discussions with at least three teams for the services of veteran defenceman Darnell Nurse, sources tell TFP.
The Philadelphia Flyers, Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks remain engaged in trade talks with Oilers GM Stan Bowman over Nurse, who has four years remaining on his contract.
The Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins are among Nurse’s top choices, while he would have to reconsider the Ducks and Sharks if a trade is presented.
Nurse, 31, requested a trade from the Oilers after the season. As TFP reported in March, the Oilers explored trading him prior to the trade deadline.
There is a belief that the Flyers want some minimal salary retained by the Oilers if a deal is finalized, while neither the Ducks nor Sharks would require retention.
Trade talks are ongoing and are expected to continue this week as the Oilers prefer to get a deal done in the coming days.
In 82 games with the Oilers this past season, Nurse registered seven goals and 17 assists for 24 points, along with a career-high 104 penalty minutes.
