More NHL honours pour in for Canadiens as Demidov, Dobes named to All-Rookie Team
Canadiens forward Ivan Demidov and netminder Jakub Dobes were named to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team on Friday.
They join forwards Beckett Sennecke (Anaheim Ducks) and Jimmy Snuggerud (St. Louis Blues), and defencemen Alexander Nikishin (Carolina Hurricanes) and Matthew Schaefer (New York Islanders) to complete the six-man squad.
The 20-year-old Demidov was the runner-up to Schaefer for this year’s Calder Trophy, given to the league’s top rookie. The fifth overall pick in 2024 led all freshmen in points with 62. He added nine points in 19 playoff games.

With 29 wins, Dobes led all rookies in that category and was ninth overall. The fifth-round (No. 136 overall) 2020 draft pick earned folk-hero status in Montreal during the playoffs, when his nine wins tied Steve Penney for third on the Habs’ all-time rookie list in a single post-season behind Patrick Roy (15) and Ken Dryden (12).
Later on Friday, the NHL announced that Canadiens right-winger Cole Caufield was named to the Second All-Star Team. He had a team-leading 51 goals along with 37 assists in 81 games this season before adding six goals and seven assists in 19 playoff games.
The Canadiens have had a busy awards season. In addition to Demidov’s Calder nomination, Nick Suzuki took home the Frank J. Selke Trophy for best defensive forward, while Caufield won the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct.
