Montreal Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin to undergo knee surgery
After leading the Montreal Victoire to its first championship in PWHL history, captain Marie-Philip Poulin will undergo knee surgery in July.
“We are very confident her return to play will be in due time,” Victoire general manager Danièle Sauvageau said, but couldn’t offer a timeline concerning her return to the ice.
Poulin said she injured her ACL and meniscus on her right knee.
The 35-year-old forward sustained a lower-body injury during the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina in February after taking a hit from Czechia’s Kristyna Kaltounkova during a preliminary-round game.
She returned from the injury and scored in Canada’s 5-1 quarterfinal win over Germany and the team went on to win a silver medal.
The Victoire captain then missed 10 regular season games after being placed on long-term injured reserve due to a lower-body injury suffered against the Boston Fleet on March 15.
Poulin returned for the post-season and the Victoire went on to win the club’s first Walter Cup.
“It was unbelievable to watch,” Sauvageau said of Poulin’s perseverance of playing through injury.
Poulin ended the 2025-26 regular season with 18 points in 19 games, and followed it up with another eight points in nine playoff games.
She toured the PWHL championship trophy through her hometown of Beauceville and ate poutine out of it.
She also received an honorary doctorate from Bishop’s University.
The PWHL has yet to release its schedule for the 2026-27 season.
