Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis signs multi-year contract extension

LAVAL-SUR-LAC, Que. — Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis was signed to a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Monday.

St. Louis, a finalist for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year in 2025, was entering the final year of his contract. The team did not announce the contract terms.

St. Louis, the fourth-longest-tenured coach in the NHL, has shepherded the Canadiens through a rebuild. He will now be charged with leading the team, one of the youngest in the league, through the opening of a legitimate contention window.

He led the Canadiens on a run to the Eastern Conference final last season and has become one of the main attractions for players considering joining the team.

Known as an excellent communicator who can develop young talent and also find ways for veterans to improve, St. Louis is beginning his fifth full season behind the Canadiens bench.
