Martin St. Louis’s favourite TV show comes to life in Jerry Seinfeld meeting
Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis famously said during the post-season he falls asleep watching old reruns of Seinfeld.
Thursday night at Just for Laughs, St. Louis got the opportunity to meet his sitcom hero in the flesh, presenting standup Jerry Seinfeld with a Canadiens jersey on the night of his Place des Arts show.
“Martin St. Louis said he watched Seinfeld to unwind during the playoffs in April. Today, Jerry Seinfeld got his own Canadiens jersey,” the comedy festival wrote on Instagram. The photo features the comedy legend flanked by St. Louis and festival president and CEO Sylvain Parent-Bédard.
“Now that’s a Montreal crossover that could only happen at Just For Laughs Montréal Festival.”
The Canadiens coach made the comment after the Habs lost in overtime in Game 2 of their first-round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
“To me, Seinfeld is the show that can let me disconnect from everything,” St. Louis said at the time.
“It’s a show about nothing — so you can think about nothing. You don’t even actually have to watch it; you can just listen to it, because you know the characters. It’s easy (after) to fall asleep.”
St. Louis has 67 sleeps until the Canadiens kick off the 2026-27 regular season against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sept. 29
