Martin St-Louis gives candid response to Canadiens fans’ ‘Shoot The Puck’ chants after Game 4 loss

Martin St-Louis had plenty to say about certain Montreal Canadiens fans and what they were shouting during Game 4 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Quebec-born head coach clearly heard the chants from Canadiens fans during the third period.
And he had plenty to say about the subject.
He delivered a strong and lengthy response because he clearly did not want to take the situation lightly.

“The game’s going to humble you; whenever you get humbled, you stand tall. It’s not fun to hear that but they’re not wrong.”
St-Louis was referring here to the fans chanting “Shoot The Puck” during the third period at the Bell Centre.

Indeed, during the third period, several fans at the Bell Centre were chanting “shoot the puck” in unison.
It was an obvious display of frustration from the fanbase, who were not seeing their favorite team generate enough offensive opportunities during the game.
And the Canadiens had just broken an unfortunate NHL record by limiting themselves to fewer than 18 shots on goal in three consecutive playoff games.
Yes, the fans are absolutely right to express their frustration.
Many coaches could have publicly defended themselves against the fans’ chants.
Others could have blamed the fans for their impatience. Some even might have asked the crowd to support the team in a more positive way.
But St-Louis chose the exact opposite approach.
And it’s the kind of response that can strengthen the fans’ respect for their head coach!
The next crucial game is scheduled for Friday night at the PNC Arena in Carolina.
