Leafs trade Woll, Benoit to Flyers — The Fourth Period

The first domino in Toronto has fallen under the new regime of GM John Chayka and Sr. Advisor Mats Sundin, as the Maple Leafs have traded goaltender Joseph Woll and defenceman Simon Benoit to the Philadelphia Flyers.

In exchange, the Flyers have sent defenceman Emil Andrae, goaltender Samuel Ersson and a 2026 third-round draft pick to the Leafs.

TFP’s David Pagnotta reported earlier in the week that Woll’s name had been floating around the trade market and two days later the Leafs pull the trigger on a move.

Woll, 27, was selected by the Maple Leafs in the third round (62nd overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft and has appeared in parts of five NHL seasons with Toronto. He owns a career record of 63-43-9, along with a 2.94 goals-against average and .906 save percentage in 117 regular-season games.

In 2025-26, he recorded a 15-16-7 record, a career-high two shutouts, a 3.34 goals-against average, and a .899 save percentage.

Benoit, 27, has played parts of six NHL seasons with the Anaheim Ducks (2020-23) and Toronto Maple Leafs (2023-26). Over 352 career games, he has recorded six goals and 30 assists for 36 points while averaging 17:05 of ice time per game.

Andrae, 24, skated in 61 games for Philadelphia last season, recording two goals and 11 assists for 13 points. In 107 career NHL games, the Västervik, Sweden native has accumulated three goals and 17 assists for 20 points.

He was originally selected by Philadelphia in the second round (54th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Ersson, 26, appeared in 33 games for the Flyers last season, posting a 14-11-5 record with a 3.12 goals-against average and an .870 save percentage. In 143 career NHL games, the Falun, Sweden native has a combined 65-50-17 record, 3.01 goals-against average and .884 save percentage.

He was originally selected by Philadelphia in the fifth round (143rd overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.
