We are seeing more and more action on the NHL trade market.
This time, it involves a Canadiens prospect who could be available in a trade.
The journalist shared his thoughts in a Q&A for The Gazette.
He was asked which prospects could be traded this summer.
His answer may surprise fans.
“The Canadiens have already shown they’re willing to trade Russian prospect Alexander Zharovsky,” Cowan stated.
His reasoning is based on a major rumour that circulated a few days ago.
According to what was reported, Zharovsky would have been part of a package heading to Toronto.
The two clubs reportedly had an agreement before running out of time.
Zharovsky is one of the organization’s top prospects, so there is real curiosity about what could happen with this situation.
Alexander Zharovsky apparently available on the trade market
Hughes was aggressive in targeting him and really wanted to select him at the 2025 NHL Draft.
The general manager attempted to move up early in the second round to acquire the Russian forward.
Zharovsky has also lived up to expectations.
He enjoyed an impressive first season in the KHL.
But the reality of the market remains. To complete a major trade, a general manager often has to sacrifice quality prospects.
That is the price of improving in the present.
You can see Cowan’s comments here:
It remains to be seen whether Zharovsky will actually be traded this summer.
Nothing suggests that he will never wear a Canadiens jersey, nor that a trade is imminent.
However, with the Knies rumour in the background, other teams may know that he is not completely out of reach.
