Hagens is coming to Boston; the Bruins, that is — The Fourth Period
Those who are regular viewers of the IIHF World Junior Championships are familiar with Hagens’ exploits. He represented the United States at the 2025 WJC, where he helped lead the Americans to a gold medal while posting 9 points (5 goals, 4 assists) in 7 games. The following year (2026), Hagens contributed 7 points (2 goals and 5 assists) in 5 games.
The Hauppauge, New York, native has also represented the United States internationally in two IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championships (2023, 2024). Hagens won gold at the 2023 U-18 tournament. He holds the IIHF U-18 Men’s World Championship single‑tournament scoring record with 22 points in 2024, earning tournament MVP honors and helping the United States capture a silver medal.
Since his days of playing youth/minor hockey, Hagens has shown a penchant for piling up the points. In two years with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program (U17 and U18), he produced 187 points (72 goals, 115 assists) in 118 games. Before that, Hagens posted 115 points on 54 goals and 61 assists at the U15 level while playing for Rhode Island’s Mount St. Charles School, one of the powerhouse youth programs in the United States.
Hagens’ on ice history gives everyone in Bruins Nation reason to be giddy with excitement. Many anticipate the young player to be a scoring machine once his skates touch the ice in Boston. In reality, it remains to be seen if Hagens will fulfill expectations. The League has seen “can’t miss” prospects actually miss for a variety of reasons after being given the opportunity to be stars. Does anyone remember Alexander Daigle? Hint, Ottawa Senators. No? My point exactly.
Boston’s approach of sending Hagens to Providence makes total sense. The majority of young players need to learn the pro style of the game on and off the ice. Time in the American Hockey League allows for further developing the physical skills and confidence that will make them productive, if not impact players, in the National Hockey League. Hagens is being offered that opportunity. The presumption is that he will take it and be ready for the call to Boston when that time comes.
