Florida trying to acquire Larkin, makes offer — The Fourth Period

Share

Trade talks involving Detroit Red Wings centre Dylan Larkin are picking up and it appears at least one offer is already on the table for the Wings captain.

Larkin, who turns 30 on July 30, requested a trade from the Red Wings, which was reported last week, and is entering the fourth year of an eight-year, $69.6 million contract.

While it was initially reported that Larkin submitted a list of three teams he would accept a trade to, TFP’s David Pagnotta has reported that Florida, Vegas and Minnesota are his three preferred destinations and other clubs, such as Dallas and Utah, are believed to also be in play.

On Thursday, during an appearance on The Fan Hockey Show, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that trade talks have picked up around Larkin and that the Panthers have presented the Red Wings with an offer, though he did not share details of what the offer may be.

Several teams are expected to pitch offers for Larkin and Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman is going to try to maximize a return for the veteran star.

The Panthers own the ninth-overall pick in this month’s NHL Draft and may try to package that with other assets for a player like Larkin.

In 74 games with the Red Wings this season, Larkin registered a career-high 34 goals to go along with 33 assists to tally 67 points.
