Doughty aims to keep playing, eyes captaincy — The Fourth Period

Drew Doughty has one year remaining on his contract and expressed to the media that he wants to stay a member of the Los Angeles Kings for the rest of his career, however long that may end up.

Doughty, 36, will enter the final year of his eight-year, $88 million contract next season and told local reporters on Wednesday that he not only wants to keep playing, he hopes to one day become the club’s captain.

“I want to stay in Los Angeles for rest of my career,” he said.

“I would love to be the captain of this team. It’s something, I guess when I was younger, it’s something I never thought of. I kind of grew into a leadership role, and now it’s certainly something I cherish. Would mean the world to me to be a captain.”
