There will be a strong McGill University connection behind the Laval Rocket’s bench this season.

Daniel Jacob was promoted from assistant coach to head coach of the Canadiens’ AHL farm team in July, a month after Pascal Vincent left the Rocket to become an assistant coach with the NHL’s Seattle Kraken.

Last month, David Urquhart left his job as head coach of the McGill Redbirds after five seasons to become an assistant coach under Jacob in Laval. Jacob and Urquhart are both McGill graduates and were teammates for one season at the university in 2004-05 when Jacob was captain. Both were defencemen.
