Coachella Valley Firebirds Re-Sign Gustav Olofsson to a 1-Year Deal – The Hockey Writers – Coachella Valley Firebirds

Olofsson has been playing in the NHL circuit since the 2014-15 season, when he was playing with the Minnesota Wild’s AHL team, the Iowa Wild. He played four seasons with Minnesota before he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Will Bitten on Oct. 3, 2018. He remained with the organization for three seasons. Ahead of the 2021-22 season, he signed with the Kraken as a free agent.

Since signing with the Kraken, he has been a part of the organization. The Firebirds didn’t exist just yet, so he spent the 2021-22 season with the Charlotte Checkers, where he played 41 games and recorded nine points.

The 2022-23 season was the first for the Firebirds, and he played in 20 games and recorded six points. He also suited up for three games with the Kraken as well. In the 2023-24 season, Olofsson spent most of his time with the Firebirds, playing in 51 games and recording 12 points. He did get to dress for one game with the Kraken, though.

In the 2024-25 season, Olofsson spent the entire time with the Firebirds. He played in 51 games and recorded 17 points, an improvement from the season before. Last season, he played in 48 games and scored four goals and recorded 28 assists for a total of 32 points. This was not only a career-high with the Kraken organization but also a career-high for him in general.

Considering Olofsson has been in the NHL for over ten seasons now, he is a great veteran presence on the Firebirds’ blue line; the team does not want to pass him up. After a strong performance in the 2025-26 season, he should hope to keep playing like this for Coachella Valley.

Olofsson has proven that he is not only a defensive threat, but in the past few seasons, an offensive threat as well. Keeping him with the Firebirds is in the best interest of the organization as he continues to level up his performance this far into his career.
