Canadiens Players Enjoyed Some Tennis Action
Many celebrities attended the Omnium Banque Nationale in Montreal this month, including a few Montreal Canadiens players.

I’ll give you two, one closer to home and one that probably will get me, flamed on social media.

One is Josh Doan, who had a breakout year with the Sabres and scored at close to 30 goals.
And I think he’s a really good young player, but now he’s got the long-term deal, and he was a third line guy, and there was no pressure on him.
With Alex Tuch gone, now the f- there’s gonna be more of an emphasis and more of a focus on him probably moving into a top six role, and that’s a tough thing.
So he could have a successful season, but he could regress to the high teens or the low 20s, and it’s not even close to what he did last year.
The one that will probably get me flamed is Matthew Schaefer.

I mean, Matthew Schaefer was phenomenal, but, you know, can he do it two years in a row?
And the, everybody’s gonna be out there looking to say, “Oh, Matthew Schaefer, he’s the, he’s the next Makar, he’s the next Hughes.”
Okay, there, we know sophomore slumps happen, even with really good players.
It happened with Nathan MacKinnon back in the day in Colorado.
His first year was great, his second year was not great, and then now he’s bounced ba- bounced back and been a Stanley Cup winner.
But, you know, there could be a little bit of a regression there with Matthew Schaefer, and people shouldn’t un- o- overreact to it, but it’s a possibility.

Corinne, you agree with those regression candidates?
Anyone else who sticks out to you as a, a possible regression season?
I don’t agree with Schaefer, actually.
I think he’ll be just fine.
I mean, people said the same thing about Lane Hutson, and then, you know, he had a brilliant rookie season, and he topped it in his sophomore season.
So I, I don’t see the jinx, affecting Schaefer.
The one guy I’ve got on my radar for regression is and I’m gonna catch some heat from Abs fan on this one, but maybe Oliver Kapenen.
Because, you know, he did get 22 goals i- in his rookie season, but that was playing on the Canadian second line, more or less as a default, because there was nobody else to do it.

Now, say if Kent Hughes manages to actually, you know, do a trade this summer and bring someone on, then he might lose that spot, and if he does, where does that leave him?
You know, on the bottom six?
How well is he gonna perform there?
Who knows?
So that, that’s one guy I think that might regress this year
