Byram talks continue as Sabres evaluate market — The Fourth Period
The Buffalo Sabres continue to navigate the trade waters and are engaged in discussions with teams about young stud defenceman Bowen Byram.
Byram, 25, is entering the final year of his contract and comes with a $6.25 million salary cap hit. He is believed to be looking for upwards of $10 million per year on his next contract and wants more responsibility.
Several teams are believed to have checked in on Byram, including the Anaheim Ducks, Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks, among others.
It is unclear as to the type of return Buffalo GM Jarmo Kekalainen wants in exchange for Byram, but a top-six forward may be the desire if the Sabres lose Alex Tuch to free agency next week.
The Sabres have reportedly circled back with Tuch’s camp about an extension. The 30-year-old is believed to be looking for between $10.5 million to $11 million per season on a long-term deal, something Kekalainen has balked at, so far.
Byram registered a career-high 11 goals and tied a career high in assists with 31 for a career-high 4 points in 82 games with the Sabres this season.
