Kent Hughes isn’t afraid to test the trade market.
The Athletic reporter shed light on how the Canadiens’ general manager operates, describing an aggressive approach that leaves nothing to chance.
His observations came from conversations with people around the league.
The picture that emerges is of a GM who isn’t afraid to stir things up.
“My sense from talking to people around the league is that Habs GM Kent Hughes has not been shy about calling about guys who likely aren’t even available.”
He then gave a concrete example.
“He called the Islanders about Bo Horvat,” LeBrun added.
That says a lot about Hughes’ mindset.
Calling about an established center like Horvat, even with no indication that he’s on the market, takes guts.

That aggressive approach also explains why so many names keep being linked to Montreal.
A GM who calls around the league is bound to keep the rumor mill moving.
Still, most of those calls haven’t led anywhere for now.
