Chris Kreider checks a lot of boxes for Canadiens team with Stanley Cup aspirations
It didn’t matter whether he was playing for the New York Rangers or Anaheim Ducks. Every time Chris Kreider touched the puck at the Bell Centre, the braying was relentless.
But now, perhaps, Kreider no longer will be perceived as the enemy after signing a one-year, US$2.15-million contract with the Canadiens last Saturday — along with another potential US$3.125 million in performance bonuses.
The 35-year-old winger became a free agent last Wednesday after being placed on waivers by Anaheim, eschewing the final season of his seven-year, US$45.5-million contract. The Massachusetts native made it clear he wanted to play for an eastern-based team, noting the Canadiens aggressively pursued him, meaning the deal came together quickly.
