Canadiens golf tournament:: Martin St-Louis signs multi-year extension, Anderson named alternate
The Montreal Canadiens season unofficially started on Monday morning with their annual golf tournament in Laval-Sur-Le-Lac, kicking off their 2026-27 training camp and season.
That didn’t mean they didn’t get some housekeeping things completed early, with Josh Anderson being named alternate captain replacing Brendan Gallagher, and head coach Martin St-Louis officially signing a multi-year contract extension. St-Louis’s contract was initially set to expire at the end of this season.
Jeff Gorton said that they scrapped the final year of St-Louis’s contract and it is a new four-year contract starting now.
Anderson has been with the Canadiens since the 2020-21 season, and the 32-year-old has been a leader for most of that time. He brings a lot of the competitiveness that made Gallagher a key part of the leadership group, and he will take that mantle alongside Nick Suzuki and Mike Matheson. His contract expires at the end of the season.
Expected to speak to the media today will be Geoff Molson, Jeff Gorton, Kent Hughes, St-Louis, Derek Lalonde, as well as key players.
Geoff Molson said he hasn’t met Chris Kreider yet, but that he didn’t think about 2014 when he was told about the signing. Says the leaders of the organization know him well because of his history with the New York Rangers and that was all he needed to hear.
He also said that everyone appreciates Martin St-Louis on the day of his contract extension.
Jeff Gorton talked about adding Kreider.
New number for the Canadiens’ newest addition.
Lalonde says that the defensive side of the puck is what gets teams to win championships.
Josh Anderson says he expects to start discussing a contract extension with the Canadiens soon. He says he loves the city, his daughter was born here and he’s close to home.
Zachary Bolduc is very happy with his extension and says it is a privilege to be a Canadien long-term.
Chris Kreider says the Habs logo is iconic and he’s excited to be a part of it.
Kreider says he never learned more from a player than he did from St-Louis when they played on the same line.
