Adams, Bowness on Canucks radar — The Fourth Period
As the Vancouver Canucks search for a new General Manager, candidates for the club’s vacancy are beginning to be reported.
With Canucks Assistant GM Ryan Johnson among the already-known contenders for the job, Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford, and team ownership, are started to look outside the organization for additional prospects.
Former Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin, currently an Assistant GM with the Buffalo Sabres, and former New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald have been speculated as potential targets for Vancouver, but they have not yet interviewed for the role, and additional names are started to surface.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Monday that New York Islanders Assistant GM Ryan Bowness is in the running for the vacancy in Toronto, but the Maple Leafs will have competition for his services as the Canucks are believed to also have interest.
Citing a league source, The Athletic reported Tuesday afternoon that the Canucks have received permission from Buffalo to interview former Sabres GM Kevyn Adams for their opening.
Though relieved of his duties in Buffalo, Adams remains under contract with the organization, which is why the Canucks needed to request permission to speak with him.
It is unclear, at this point, who else the Canucks are reaching out to or planning to reach out to.
On Monday, Friedman reported the Canucks may look to bring someone in to ultimately replace Rutherford as the head of hockey operations. Rutherford is believed to have one more year remaining on his contract.
