Blues continue to work the trade lines — The Fourth Period

Share

St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong has been very active this season, making and taking trade calls involving several of his players.

Despite only pulling the trigger on just two minor trades this season, Armstrong has been aggressively working the lines trying to shake up his roster and build a stronger team moving forward.

According to multiple reports, the Blues are willing to listen on almost all of their players, including the likes of Colton Parayko, Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou, who has been the subject of trade speculation since last season.

While the price tags on those three players, for example, are considerably higher than others on the team, Armstrong is willing to pull the trigger on a blockbuster if the right deal is presented – all three also own full no-trade clauses.

Blues captain Brayden Schenn, veteran defenceman Justin Faulk and centre Pius Suter, who is currently injured, have also generated interest from other teams. All three have one more year remaining on their respective contracts after this season – both Faulk and Schenn each have a 15-team no-trade list as part of their deals.

The Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals are among the teams believed to have interest in Schenn, who can play both centre and the left wing, while the Florida Panthers, Leafs and Vegas Golden Knights have been linked to Faulk.

Forwards Oskar Sundqvist and Mathieu Joseph are both playing on expiring contracts and are also trade candidates leading up to the March 6 trade deadline.

If he moves out his veteran pieces, Armstrong is believed to be looking to get younger and add draft capital as he eventually transitions the role over the Alex Steen next season.
