The Dallas Stars may have to make do without their captain for a little bit.

Jamie Benn left Sunday’s contest against the Montreal Canadiens after falling to the ice and hitting his face midway through the third period.

His status remains uncertain at this time.

The 36-year-old appeared to lose his footing while tangled up between two Canadiens’ defencemen and landed face-first onto the ice. Benn immediately grabbed his face in pain before being helped off the ice and into the locker room area.

He left Sunday’s contest after 7:46 of ice time, finishing a minus-one in that span with no shots on net.

Benn entered the day with seven goals and seven assists through 22 appearances for the 25-9-7 Stars.
