Quebec's Ann-Renée Desbiens makes 31 saves in gold medal game loss to U.S.

Megan Keller scored the game-winner in overtime to give the United States women the gold medal over Canada in a 2-1 victory at the Olympics in Milano Cortina.
Montreal Victoire goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens, a La Malbaie native, made 31 saves for Canada, but couldn’t stop Keller at 4:07 in three-on-three overtime.

Canada captain
of Beauceville set the record for most Olympic hockey games played by a Canadian woman with 27. She was held pointless in the contest.
New York Sirens forward Kristin O’Neill scored the game’s first goal shorthanded at :54 seconds in the second period with Ella Shelton in the penalty box for hooking. Her former Montreal teammate, Laura Stacey, assisted on the goal, as did Renata Fast.

With their net empty, Team USA tied the game with 2:04 remaining in regulation. American captain Hilary Knight in her fifth and final Olympics scored on the deflection to send the game to overtime.

Victoire defender Erin Ambrose exited the game momentarily in the third period after getting hit into the boards by American forward Britta Curl-Salemme, but returned to the bench.
In the seven gold medal games at the Olympics where Canada and the United States faced off against each other, five of those games were decided by one goal. Canada has an eight-game losing streak against the U.S.
