It’s a sequence that could have turned a moment of euphoria into a true catastrophe for the Montreal Canadiens and Team Canada.

An incident that occurred immediately after the tying goal scored by Nick Suzuki has sparked discussion on social media in the past few hours.

As the Habs captain was celebrating his crucial goal, an Olympic Games staff member made a monumental error in judgment by opening the rink door.

Suzuki lost his balance while skating past the opening and nearly went straight through the open door.

He really could have been seriously injured.

Just ask Brock Boeser, who is still dealing with the aftereffects of a similar sequence today:

Contact with an open bench door can truly cause damage.

The incident raised the ire of several observers, including the HFTV account, who are questioning the competence of the staff in place.

We can agree that if Suzuki had been injured on this bizarre sequence, the anger from fans would have been enormous.

The player had to make an emergency maneuver to avoid crashing into the edge of the ramp or the door mechanism.

An error in judgment that could have been very damaging for Nick Suzuki

It is imperative that door attendants understand they must never intervene while play or a celebration is unfolding nearby.

This logistical blunder comes in a tournament where injuries are already piling up, which only adds to the concern.

Let’s be honest, the tournament organizers will need to review their procedures to ensure such a situation does not happen again during the medal games.

Fortunately, Nick Suzuki was fine after scoring a big goal for Team Canada, who are now advancing to the semifinals and will face Team Finland.
