Oilers acquire Jarry from Penguins for Skinner, Kulak — The Fourth Period
The Edmonton Oilers have acquired goaltender Tristan Jarry and forward Samuel Poulin from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for goalie Stuart Skinner, defenceman Brett Kulak and a 2029 second-round draft pick.
The Oilers have also acquired defenceman Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 third-round draft pick.
Jarry, 30, has appeared in 14 games this season with 13 starts, recording a 9-3-1 record along with a 2.66 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage.
A former Edmonton Oil King and 2014 Memorial Cup champion, Jarry was the Penguins’ second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft (44th overall) and appeared in 307 games for the club over 10 seasons including his single game debut in 2016-17.
The Surrey, BC native has two more seasons remaining on his contract after this season and comes with a $5.375 million salary cap hit.
Stastney, 25, has dressed in 81 games over four seasons with Nashville, including 30 games this season. The Woodridge, Illinois native was the Pred’s fifth-round selection (131st overall) in 2018.
Poulin, 24, has recorded 64 goals and 71 assists in 207 games over the past five seasons with Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Scranton. He was the Penguins first-round selection (21st overall) in 2019.
Skinner, 27, has appeared in 23 games this season for the Oilers where he went 11-8-4 with a 2.83 goals-against average and two shutouts.
He has spent his entire professional career with Edmonton, appearing in 197 career regular-season games going 109-62-18 with a 2.74 GAA, a .904 save percentage and nine shutouts.
The Edmonton native was drafted by the Oilers in the third round (78th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.
Kulak, 31, is a veteran of 611 NHL games split between Edmonton, Montreal and Calgary since 2014. The defenseman is coming off of a career year, where he tallied career highs across the board with seven goals, 18 assists and 25 points in 82 games in 2024-25. This season, he has recorded two assists through 31 games.
He was originally drafted in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames.
Skinner has a $2.6 million cap hit and Kulak owns a $2.75 million cap hit. Both players are in the final year of their respective contracts.
