NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens on the Verge of Swooping In for 40-Goal Forward
Battling through a disappointing season, the St. Louis Blues have just gotten past the four-game losing streak through a much-needed 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena on Saturday. The Blues currently sit at the bottom end of the Central Division with 20 points.
As the season fails to instill any hope in the fan base, a curious parallel development is underway in the team’s roster: one that the Montreal Canadiens can find especially interesting.
Montreal Canadiens Among Potential Suitors for Alexandre Texier
The Blues and Alexandre Texier reach the end of the road here. The forward has been put on unconditional waivers with the intention of contract termination by the team. The 26-year-old forward has played eight games with St. Louis this season and scored a single point in the form of an assist. The last game he played with the team was against the Buffalo Sabres on November 6.
Throughout his NHL career, which has primarily been spent with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the forward has accumulated 91 points (40 goals and 51 assists) and 94 penalty minutes over 240 regular-season games. As the news of the 26-year-old being placed on waivers hit social media, rumors linking him to the Canadiens followed almost immediately.
According to a post made by Pierre LeBrun on X, Texier could be headed to play for the Habs. The Canadiens, who began the season on a high note but have faced significant difficulties lately, primarily due to the team’s injury woes and goaltending situation, may land Texier if he clears unconditional waivers, as he is expected to do.
According to LeBrun, the forward’s agent, Dan Milstein, is expected to be in touch with two teams on Sunday, when Texier is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. One of the two teams is the Canadiens.
“Texier’s agent Dan Milstein plans to have calls with 2 teams Sunday once Texier becomes a free agent. Montreal is one of those 2 teams,” LeBrun posted on X.

MontMonBesides LeBrun, insider Elliotte Friedman has also expressed his confidence in the scenario that the Habs land the forward. “We’ll see. We have to wait until this happens at two o’clock Eastern tomorrow. The word around the League right now, if you ask people about where this is going to end up, the favourite is absolutely the Montreal Canadiens,” Friedman noted, according to The Fourth Period.
Another team expected to remain in contention for the 26-year-old is the Habs’ division rivals, the Ottawa Senators.
