Since signing Alexandre Texier, both sides have been happy with the union, and so they have agreed to extend it. The team and Texier agreed to a two-year contract extension on Wednesday.
The extension was announced by his agent, Dan Milstein and confirmed by the team.
The AAV will be $2.5 million, which is higher than the $1,000,000 cap hit he currently carries, but is well within market value with the cap going up.
Texier has been on the team’s top line for the past few games, and has excelled there. He has seven goals and nine assists in 25 games. The cap hit of $2.5M doesn’t indicate that the Canadiens expect him to be on the top line long-term, but clearly there is a fit within the team and the room that the 26-year-old has fit in well with.
The Canadiens acquired Texier as a free agent earlier this year after he terminated his contract with the St. Louis Blues. He was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
