Kraken unlikely to move Tolvanen, others — The Fourth Period

Share

The Seattle Kraken are looking to add to their roster before Friday’s 3pm ET trade deadline and GM Jason Botterill is focused on potentially making a splash this week by acquiring a top-tier player.

The Kraken have tried to add a big fish going back to last season and have explored the possibility of acquiring the likes of Jordan Kyrou and Artemi Panarin, before he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings last month, in the past.

While Seattle evaluates the trade market for upgrades, teams have been calling them about some of their pending unrestricted free agents, like forward Eeli Tolvanen.

Tolvanen, captain Jordan Eberle, winger Jaden Schwartz and defenceman Jamie Oleksiak are all playing on expiring contracts, but as TFP’s David Pagnotta reported Monday and Tuesday, the Kraken are not interested in moving any of them, barring a significant overpayment.

According to Pagnotta, that message has been relayed to the players and contract talks on extensions are expected to begin, or resume in some cases, after the trade deadline.
