Let’s be clear, Joe Veleno’s time with the Montreal Canadiens appears to be coming to an end.

With Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook returning to full health, the congestion up front is becoming overwhelming. Seeing Veleno and Zachary Bolduc listed as extras suggests that one of the two may be on the way out.

Let’s be honest, the hierarchy is firmly established right now. Even with a potential trade involving Patrik Laine, the Canadiens would still have 14 forwards under active contract around the team.

Phillip Danault and Alexandre Texier have solidified their roles since arriving, providing a level of consistency Veleno has struggled to match.

It is straightforward: the prospects are pushing, and the recently acquired veterans are not going anywhere.

This morning, Newhook rejoined the lineup while Veleno remained sidelined.

It is unfortunate for the Quebec native, but the hockey business is unforgiving when everyone is healthy.

Still, Veleno brings a physical presence and reliability in the faceoff circle.

He ranks among the team leaders in hits, an asset that could be valuable in the playoffs.

A surplus of forwards impossible to manage

The Canadiens are showing a level of depth not seen in years. If a young talent like Zachary Bolduc must wait in the stands, Veleno officially becomes the odd man out.

You cannot keep a player of his caliber in the press box indefinitely without frustration building.

Kent Hughes will likely have to explore the market to find him a new opportunity before the deadline.

Barring another significant injury, the outcome seems inevitable. Joe Veleno may have played his final game in the blue-white-and-red.

We will monitor the situation closely, but organizational progress often requires difficult decisions.

It is the natural evolution of a rebuild that is finally beginning to show results in the standings.
