Let’s tell it like it is: Jacob Fowler has taken the NHL bait, and he has no intention of letting go.
“Every day I’m thinking about what I can do to get back there and help the team win.” – Jacob Fowler
It’s safe to say his stint in Montreal left a strong first impression. With a 4-4-2 record and one shutout, the Florida native proved he can hold his own against the best.
His 2.62 goals-against average and .902 save percentage show solid execution for a 21-year-old. There’s no beating around the bush — he already looks like a pro in the way he manages games.
In Laval, the plan is clear: he needs to see pucks. That’s exactly what’s been happening since Kaapo Kahkonen’s injury, which forced Fowler to start the club’s last five games.
His return to the AHL was rocky, with a game in which he allowed five goals. But the kid has character, and he bounced back strongly in his next outings.
Over his last three matchups, he has allowed just five goals in total. That kind of consistency is what could force Kent Hughes’ hand sooner than expected.

With 15 wins in 22 decisions and three shutouts, Fowler is dominating his position in the American Hockey League. His invitation to the All-Star Game is simply confirmation of his raw talent.

Still, the decision isn’t entirely his. If the two-goalie setup continues to work in Montreal, management will likely prefer to see him log heavy minutes in Laval.
This is one to watch closely, because a single injury up top could change everything.
