Hurricanes, Bussi working on contract extension — The Fourth Period

Share

Goaltender Brandon Bussi is having a remarkable first season in the NHL, posting an 18-3-1 record through 22 games, along with a 2.20 goals-against-average, a .906 save percentage and one shutout.

The Carolina Hurricanes currently sit atop the Metropolitan Division (31-15-5) thanks in large part to Bussi’s performance so far this season.

Because of his campaign to date, the Hurricanes have engaged in contract talks with Bussi’s camp, as reported by TFP’s David Pagnotta on Saturday during “The Hot Stove” on SiriusXM NHL Network Radio.

Bussi, 27, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 if unsigned, but all signs points to a new deal being ironed out.

“Brandon Bussi and the Hurricanes are in negotiations on a contract extension,” Pagnotta said, in conversation with co-hosts Ryan Paton and Dennis Bernstein. “It’s not done yet, but the to sides are working towards that. Everything that I’ve been told is that things are positive and it looks like it will get there. I would imagine, in the foreseeable future, Brandon Bussi will be extended with the Hurricanes, so good news on that front.”

The Hurricanes are without netminder Pyotr Kochetkov for the rest of the season after he underwent surgery for a lower-body injury in December.

Bussi joined the Hurricanes on Oct. 5, 2025, after being claimed off waivers from the Florida Panthers.
