Flames engaged in active Andersson trade talks — The Fourth Period

Share

Calgary Flames GM Craig Conroy has been receiving more frequent calls about star defenceman Rasmus Andersson, who is in the final year of his current contract.

Several teams are believed to have re-engaged in trade talks with Calgary about Andersson since the holiday roster freeze was lifted and trade talks have picked up recently, according to multiple reports.

Andersson, 29, is in the final year of a six-year, $27.3 million contract and is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

The Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings are some of the teams interested in Andersson, who also has a six-team no-trade list as part of his contract.

The Los Angeles Kings tried to acquire Andersson last summer, and while he reportedly declined a contract extension with the club, at the time, it is unclear if the Kings have circled back.

Andersson, who ranks No.1 on TFP’s Trade Watch List, is certainly an attractive piece for several contenders and his $4.55 million salary cap hit is equally as attractive as his on-ice talent.

In 45 games with the Flames so far this season, Andersson has registered nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points.

Meanwhile, teams continue to inquire about forwards Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri, while gritty forward Ryan Lomberg, who is in the last year of his current contract, is also believed to be drawing interest from clubs looking to toughen their bottom-six forward corps.
