The New York Rangers wing has five points (two goals, three assists) in four games this season and four points (two goals, two assists), including one power-play point, two shots on goal, 23 faceoff wins, nine hits and two blocks in two games since returning to the lineup. Trocheck rejoined Artemi Panarin and Alexis Lafreniere on the second line and they combined for six goals, eight assists and 12 SOG in their past two games together.
Per NHL EDGE stats, Trocheck ranks highly among forwards in average shot speed (62.49 mph; 93rd percentile) and has two midrange goals (78th percentile), despite only playing four games this season. The Blue Jackets have allowed the fourth-most shots per game (31.4) and have allowed at least four goals in four of their past five games. — Chris Meaney
Player to watch for goal, assist and/or shots on goal: Morgan Geekie, F, BOS (at MTL; 7:00 p.m. ET; TVAS, CITY, SNE, NESN, NHLN)
Geekie, who had NHL career highs in points (57), goals (33), assists (24), game-winning goals (four), shots on goal (150) and ice time per game (16:55) last season, has 18 points (12 goals, six assists) and is averaging 18:05 in 19 games this season. Geekie is tied for second in the NHL in even-strength goals (10) and tied for seventh in 5-on-5 goals this season and was second in the League in 5-on-5 goals (26) and tied for eighth in even-strength goals (29) last season. The 27-year-old has seven points (three goals, four assists) during a five-game point streak and has had at least one point in 11 of his past 12 games, which includes 10 goals over that span and at least three SOG in nine of those games. Geekie has shown great chemistry on the first line and power play with elite wing David Pastrnak, who is tied for eighth in the NHL with 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists).
Per NHL EDGE stats, Geekie leads the NHL in max shot speed (103.03 mph) and ranks highly at his position in average shot speed (60.86 mph; 88th percentile), total miles skated (52.95; 90th percentile), high-danger SOG (16; 85th percentile), midrange SOG (16; 87th percentile), long-range SOG (eight; 97th percentile), midrange goals (six; tied for fourth in NHL) and long-range goals (two; tied for first among forwards). The Montreal Canadiens have allowed 12 goals in their past two games and at least four goals in four of their past five games. — Meaney
Player to watch for goal, point and/or shots on goal: Zach Hyman, F, EDM (at CAR; 7 p.m. ET; FDSNSO, SNW)
The Edmonton Oilers wing is expected to make his season debut after missing the start of the season with a wrist injury. Hyman has scored at least 27 goals and had at least 210 shots on goal in each of his past four seasons and was productive in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs (11 points in 15 games) prior to sustaining the injury. Hyman frequently plays on the top line and first power play with elite forwards Connor McDavid and/or Leon Draisaitl.
Per NHL EDGE stats, Hyman led the League in high-danger goals (45) during the 2023-24 season, when he set an NHL career high in goals (54). Last season, he ranked eighth in the entire NHL in offensive zone time percentage (48.8) during the regular season and was also an advanced stats standout in high-danger shots on goal (131; second in League), high-danger goals (21; just outside top 10) and 20-plus mph speed bursts (163; 89th percentile). The Carolina Hurricanes have allowed 17 goals over their past five games. — Pete Jensen

The Seattle Kraken defenseman is coming off his best game of the season, when he had three points (one goal, two assists) against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. Dunn now has 12 points (tied for 14th among defensemen), five on the power play, and 44 shots on goal in 17 games this season and is playing on the first power play with forward Jordan Eberle (leads Seattle with seven goals, 13 points this season). It’s also worth noting Dunn has scored at least 11 goals in each of the past three seasons for the Kraken, and his 39 goals since 2022-23 rank 14th among defensemen.
Per NHL EDGE stats, Dunn has a robust advanced stats profile that includes high ranks among defensemen in hardest shot (94.23 mph; 88th percentile), total skating distance (56.04 miles; 87th percentile), offensive zone time percentage (45.2; 88th percentile), midrange shots on goal (11; 96th percentile) and long-range shots on goal (23; 97th percentile). The San Jose Sharks were outshot 36-17 against the Calgary Flames on Thursday and are allowing the most shots on goal per game (32.1) in the NHL this season. — Jensen
