Did NBC Just Motivate Team Canada to Win Gold?
The last time Canada and the United States clashed on the international stage, the Canadians left the ice with their heads held high. Fresh off crowning themselves Four Nations Face-Off Champions, Canada sent the Americans home to lick their wounds, reigning supreme over the hockey world once again.
Now, with the return of NHL players to the 2026 Winter Olympics, the tension is palpable. Both nations have officially begun their quest for Gold, with Canada making a statement by demolishing Czechia 5-0, while the United States prepares to face off against Latvia. With an inevitable collision course set for the medal rounds, fans are already expecting fireworks.
While international rules may prohibit fighting, that hasn’t stopped the hostility from boiling over. Fans have caught wind of a new NBC commercial that has drawn the ire of proud Canadians everywhere.
While this tongue-in-cheek ad makes for great television, it poses a massive risk if the USA falls short. This is prime “bulletin board material”—the exact kind of fuel opposing teams, especially Team Canada, use for motivation. I’ve personally never believed in handing your opponent extra incentives, and this commercial could go down as an all-time fumble should the Americans fail
What are your thoughts on this commercial? Is it just good fun, or a poorly timed attempt at humor that’s destined to backfire?
Either way, I’m locking in my prediction: when the tournament ends, Canada will reign supreme once again.
