Capitals, Hurricanes entering Hughes race? — The Fourth Period

Share

As the Vancouver Canucks continue to draw interest from clubs over superstar defenceman Quinn Hughes, additional teams are starting to pop up as potential suitors for Vancouver’s captain.

The Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers have been the three teams most often linked to Hughes.

In addition to those three, all of whom have expressed interest, the New York Rangers are also believed to be willing to take a shot at acquiring Hughes, as TFP’s David Pagnotta reported on Monday.

Though it is still unclear if the Canucks have serious intentions of moving Hughes, and many have suggested an in-season trade may not occur if Hughes is indeed eventually dealt, teams continue to inquire and the Canucks seem open to listening.

During Wednesday’s edition of DFO Rundown Insiders Edition, Irfaan Gaffar and Pagnotta spoke about the latest rumblings surrounding Hughes and Pagnotta noted both the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals are also believed to have varying degrees of interest.

“We know the usual suspects,” Pagnotta said. “We’ll continue to hear more teams, I’m sure, as this progressed, but the latest two that I have are the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals.

“I keep being told that Quinn Hughes and his agent hold all the cards in this at the end of the day, which depending on who you talk to, some believe that’s the case, others say it’s the Canucks because they have full control.”
