Canadiens face competition for Jordan Kyrou as Islanders engage Blues

We have to tell it like it is: the Jordan Kyrou file is starting to heat up seriously ahead of the trade deadline.

With the St. Louis Blues arriving in Minnesota tonight, all eyes are on Robert Thomas as he makes his big return.

We can agree the timing is pretty suspicious, right as trade rumors are exploding.

Elliotte Friedman is not mincing words: Thomas is in the shop window, just like Jordan Kyrou and even goaltender Jordan Binnington.

But now, major new developments are muddying the waters with the New York Islanders’ involvement in the Kyrou situation.

An all-out battle for offensive punch

The Islanders desperately need offensive punch under Patrick Roy. To pry Kyrou out of St. Louis, the name Kashawn Aitcheson is circulating insistently as a potential trade chip for Doug Armstrong.

Let’s remember that Aitcheson was the 17th overall pick in 2025, a selection that initially belonged to the Canadiens.

Mathieu Darche, now in charge with the Islanders, could sacrifice that prospect or young Danny Nelson to obtain immediate help.

Patrick Roy’s squad is stuck 22nd in the NHL in goals scored, an untenable situation.

Kyrou, with his elite speed, would solve many problems in their top six, but the price will be high in young talent.

Let’s admit it, seeing Aitcheson, a pure product of our draft-pick pipeline, used to acquire a star for the Islanders would sting.

If the Blues decide to liquidate everything, a rebuild in St. Louis could force the hand of several general managers.

We’re staying alert, because the next major transaction could very well involve a former member of the Canadiens or one of its former prospects.
